HISTORY OF THE STATE BELT RAILROAD A short history of the State Belt Railroad .

LOCOMOTIVES OF THE STATE BELT The line rostered 0-4-2T in the early days, then perferred larger 0-6-0s from a variety of builders before entering the diesel age. The line upgraded to diesel electrics during WW2 and once roster five ALCO S2 switchers. Two have been converted to Bio-Diesels and still serve San Francisco at the Port of San Francisco southern waterfront trackage around Pier 96.

US Military Operations The State Belt hosted a number of military trains and connected with trackage at Fort Mason (San Francisco Port of Embarkation - US Army) and also the Presidio of San Francisco (Crissy Field).
